Just saw this on the news, the ride was called 'the smiler', you couldn't make it up.

The 4 teenagers have serious lower leg injuries, no life-threatening injuries.

I believe one has lost his leg, not life threatening but life changing

The year before last was on the Air ride where your legs are raised up so its like you are flying and it broke down for 30 minutes, and we were left hanging in mid air, head and arms etc are restrained so you cannot move. Not a nice experience, had to manually wind the seats back into sitting position then get us down with ladders, felt like we were there for hours.
I was on the Smiler last year and it broke down, stuck on it for about 40 mins,
On the plus side they gave us Fast Track Pass's on both occasions so no more queuing for the rest of the trips, but beginning to think they may have a few issues there.

'I believe one has lost his leg'

I lost a hat once and my sister lost her shoe on Nemesis. and I thought we were careless!

Re: Alton Towers rollercoaster crash
I don't think a couple fast track tickets and a sorry are gonna cut it this time. Apparently a couple who were hit in the face by a small wheel from this ride, although didn't need medical attention, got free tickets for a year.

If you watch a trailer for the ride it feels like you're watching a film where the actor is playing a character on the brink of suicide, a day after the actor has committed.

They're gonna have to do some work to restore the faith. And the bank balance.

Jon, wasn't suggesting not life changing, just that 1 had not died as some on Twitter had circulated.

I know mate, not a good situation when you go out for a fun day out and come home minus a limb.

Never seen the attraction in theme parks, kids stuff isn't it?

Re: Alton Towers rollercoaster crash
Theme parks and fair rides bar the dodgems are not for me!
Can't see the point in queing for hours and paying stupid money to spend 3 mins making yourself feel sick whilst risking injury.

Maybe for kids but I was never into it even then.

Amen, Rylan.

Nearly fell out of one at Hayling Island when I was a nipper, the safety bar came up. Luckily my Dad was in the front so could hold us down.

FUCK THE THINGS.

Yeh they never feel that safe as you say. The more popular and outrageous they get the more accidents are likeky.

Re: Alton Towers rollercoaster crash
I don't know if there's anything in it statistically, but I always trust the big operators over in the States like Disney and Universal more than the relatively shoestring operations here.

Alton Towers always looks run down and tatty compared with American parks whenever I've been there. Suggests to me that ride safety and maintenance may also not be entirely up to scratch.

Re: Alton Towers rollercoaster crash
It's actually such a shame... Went to Alton Towers in October for fright nights and this ride is hands down the best rollercoaster in the country. Yes it does break down a lot however which raises eyebrows over the safety, but how the fuck did that crash even happen? How did the "test" carriage even end up getting stuck in the first place? But more importantly SURELY its down to human error when they sent a carriage full of 16 people out before the test carriage had come back? And even so this ride is essentially two parts, with a break in the middle before going up a vertical lift hill. Why did no one spot that a carriage had fucking stopped dead with all the cameras they have there?

I love alton towers, love the thrill of the rides but more importantly love the gorgeous scenery, it's a lovely part if the world. Always take a young bird up there a couple of times a year, get a nice bnb, sorted
